Our Foundation
Nga Pū Toru (Tap Root) represents our foundational worldview one grounded in holistic thinking, geographic climate understanding, and our deep connection to the land.
Nga Pū Toru is the regional name for a grouping of islands where our founder’s father grew up. A lack of resources once forced a journey between islands a journey that reshaped identity, direction, and purpose. This story sparked a lifelong question:
How do communities survive and thrive when facing overwhelming odds?
At ECS, this question guides everything we do.

Our goal is to enable resilient, independent and self-sufficient communities in the face of climate change through our modular approach. Our motto is “prepared for the storms to come”.
The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development goals, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, are “an urgent call for action by all countries, developing and developed, in a global partnership.” This call for action being peace and prosperity for all people and the planet from the present to in the future.

Understanding the Whole System
Before any solution is designed, we take the time to understand the full environment. This includes onsite inspections, environmental testing, climate risk assessment, and a review of existing infrastructure performance together with available resources people, equipment and materials.
We look beyond surface level issues to understand how moisture, air, land conditions, energy and water use, and structural systems interact. By identifying risks, limitations and opportunities revolving around the carrying capacity of the land, we create a clear, evidence based foundation for action.
Assessment allows us to make informed decisions that respect both people and place.
2. Design / Optimize
Solutions Built Around You
Using insights gathered during assessment, we design solutions that respond directly to your environment, community, and existing infrastructure.
This may involve creating a new integrated system or optimizing what is already in place. Our approach is modular and flexible, allowing systems to adapt over time rather than relying on fixed, short term interventions.
By combining practical engineering, environmental understanding, and modern technology, we design solutions that are efficient, resilient, and future focused.
3. Install
Delivering Resilience in Action
Once the design is finalized, we move into implementation. Our team manages the installation process with care, transparency, and attention to detail ensuring systems are delivered safely, effectively, and to specification.
Installation includes integration, testing, and quality assurance to confirm systems are performing as intended. Where appropriate, we also support knowledge transfer so communities and organizations can confidently manage and maintain their systems with available parts.
The result is infrastructure that works in harmony with its environment built to endure and prepared for the challenges ahead.
